Usability study – How people really use the iPhone
Some interesting results from a study by clever folks at “Create with Context” – who design and re-design digital products – on iPhone usage. They conducted lab usability tests on experienced iPhone owners, iPhone novices and people who’d never touched an iPhone.
Some of the results are interesting, and they offer some useful iPhone interface design insights at the end of the slideshow, including this valuable and timeless gem:
1. Take advantage of learned behaviours eg. “Oh, this works just like the calendar” or “The URL address bar is at the top, just like my computer’s web browser“. Many UX designers agree there’s no such thing as “intuitive” design – but there are designs that feel “right” because they match your expectations and past experiences.
